How to: Install/replace a floppy drive.
Solution:
Turn the computer off. Remove the computer cover, install the drive into the bay and connect the cables. Turn on the computer and update the BIOS to recognize the new floppy drive.
NOTE: This task should be done by a qualified computer technician.
CAUTION: The following procedure will expose the internal components to possible damage from Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). Observe ESD precautions whenever handling computer components.
1) Turn off the computer and all of its components.
2) Remove the computer cover.
3) Locate the drive bay, into which the new drive will be installed.
4) Fit the drive into the drive bay before connecting wires or installing any necessary brackets to hold the drive into place.
5) Remove the screws that will be needed to hold the drive into place.
6) Find and attach the ribbon cable to the back of the drive.
NOTE: The stripped or red edge of the ribbon cable MUST BE aligned to pin 1. To locate Pin 1 for the floppy drive, consult the documentation that came with the floppy drive.
7) Find and attach the power source to the back of the drive. (The power source is the 4-colored wire that is attached to the white connector.)
8) Replace the computer cover.
9) Turn on your computer and update your BIOS to recognize the new floppy drive.
NOTE: Consult the computer manual in order to update your BIOS.
